#1311 - When subscriber is imported in Mailchimp it is not synchronized with Sugar

Closed Bug? created by karel 9 years ago

Hi,

It seems to work fine but only one thing is not working. When a subscriber is imported in Mailchimp (with the importer tool from mailchimp) it is not synchronized with Sugar. However, the list where this user is imported to is synchronyzing. Because when we add a new subscriber manually to Mailchimp (instead of importing) it is synchronizing and showing up in Sugarcrm.

Hello, let me do some testing on this. The MailChimp importer tool should work the same way when adding people to your list. It should also send the newly imported subscribers to Sugar. I'll get back to you on this one. Thanks!

Hello, I did some investigating into this and asked the MailChimp API team a few questions. When you use the importer tool in MailChimp, it does not notify send the updates over their webhooks API which is what is used to notify Sugar changes have been made on the MailChimp side.

There are a couple ways to work around this:

    1) "Bulk Actions" in MailChim will fire the necessary update call to notify Sugar changes were made in MailChimp. Here are the steps for that:

    • Create new temp list by copying existing list that you ultimately want to import subscribers into.
    • Import subscribers via CSV/Excel copy/paste (or upload) into your new temp list.
    • Apply a 'Bulk Action' to move all users in the temp list into your actual target list. (Webhook will fire here)
    • Remove subscribers from temp list so it'll be ready to go for your next import

    2) In the next major release, it will be easier to re-sync your list from in the MailChimp-to-Sugar direction. So another alternative will be to run your import on the MailChimp side as normal, but then go to Sugar and run a MailChimp-to-sugar re-sync. This will bring in the newly imported subscribers into Sugar and keep them in sync going forward.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Thank you! I already created the list and worked with it, so option one is not the way to go. Leaves us option two. How can I do a resync?

Ahh ok, gotcha! At the latest, the new release will be out sometime next week. It will provide an easy option to re-import import from MailChimp to Sugar which will bring in those imported subscribers.

I haven't tried this but it just came to mind that may get you the results sooner... what if you created a custom temporary MailChimp Group on your MailChimp list, then Select All in your list, and use the Bulk Action to add them all to the temporary Group. Then you can delete the temporary Group. This may trigger the webhook to fire as well. Let me know if you try this.

Otherwise, will let you know when the new release is out. Thanks!

Thanks! It works. Quick other question: is it possible to use only one module in Sugar? Now it is standard syncing with all, but I only want to sync with contacts.

      Wow, good to hear!

It is possible to only sync to Contacts. A couple things to do:

      1) Go to your Sugar Target List that is in-sync. Make sure the "Create MailChimp Subscriber as" field is set to "Contacts". This is so that new subscribers added on the MailChimp side will be added as Contacts.

      2) In Sugar, go to Admin > SugarChimp Field Mapping, select your MailChimp list from the drop down and set all of the non Contact fields to "Do Not Sync" and click "Save Mapping"

This will make it a contacts only sync. Thanks!
