#2896 - Email Update to MailChimp

Closed General Question created by meuhus Verified Purchase 7 years ago

When I update the email address of a target, the subscriber on MailChimp associated with that email address is unsubscribed and a new subscriber is created with the new email address. I'm not sure if this by design or a problem or if I'm updating the email address incorrectly. If by design this means I loose all access to when the subscriber was originally created on the MailChimp side and any campaigns they received.

    Hello Melody,

Thanks for noticing that issue. The scenario you've described is actually the expected behavior for the integration currently. MailChimp removed the ability for us to update email address via the API a while back, so we were forced to change our code to unsubscribe the old address, and subscribe a new one.

However, as you can see here: http://developer.mailchimp.com/documentation/mailchimp/guides/changelog/, MailChimp has actually added the ability for us to update email addresses back into their API system. So, I will make the appropriate changes on a future release.

For now, you should be able to manually resubscribe the 'old-email' person in MailChimp, and edit their email address right within MailChimp. You will probably need to delete the newly created MailChimp Subscriber before editing the old one. Let me know if you have any questions about that. Thanks again for reporting the issue, I will update you once this change has been made!

    Cheers! Jon

    Hello Melody,

I've addressed the email update issue. Going forward, you should be able to update an existing record's email address in Sugar, and find that their email address is updated accordingly in MailChimp. The only exception to that would be if you have multiple records with the same email address on your Target List. In that case, we'd create a new record for the changed email address.

I'm going to send you an email with a link to download the new package. You will need to install it in admin > module loader. Let me know how any testing goes. Thanks for bringing the issue to our attention.

    Cheers! Jon

The installation fixed the email update issue for the customer. Should be good for everything after release 7.8.2e. I'm going to close this case out. Let us know how things continue from there.

    Thanks, Jon
