#3430 - Unable to delete groups

Closed General Question created by Origo hf, Hordur Olavson 7 years ago

I sync Mailchimp Groups to a custom field, TargetGroup in contacts, targets and leads in SugarCRM. During one import into Mailchimp, some additional groups were inadevertently added to some Mailchimp contacts and synced to the TargetGroup multi value list..

Now I want to delete these incorrect groups from both Mailchimp and Sugarcrm. What I have done is the following: 1. Make the schedules SugarChimp and SmartList Inactive 2. Delete the groups from Mailchimp 3. Delete the groups from the MultiSelect field behind TargetGroup field using studio 4. Make schedules SugarChimp and SmartList Active again

At the next sync the additional groups are added, both to the Sugar list and Mailchimp :(

What am I doing wrong?

    Hello Hordur,

Thanks for reaching out, and I believe you've got the correct procedure needed to get the values removed from both Groups and Lists. However, when this occurs, it's typically because there is a second Sugar instance that is syncing to MailChimp. On that instance, the multiselect options were added as well. This, then, pushes the options back to MailChimp, which then pushes them to your live crm instance.

Let me know if that's possible.

    Thanks, Jon

      Hi Jon,

No, there is no other Sugar instance syncing with Mailchimp. To be absolutely sure, I disabled the two schedules in Sugar, removed the groups once more from both Sugar and Mailchimp and have waited for several hours to see if something changes in Mailchimp. The groups are not added.

    Hello Hordur,

We don't store any dropdown menus or options, so as long as they are cleaned up, the scheduler run does not "know" that anything was removed. It will check any Groups in MailChimp vs the mapped field options in SugarCRM and add any missing. Is it possible that a field on a different module is pointing to a different dropdown list that is duplicated in the crm? There's not many other scenarios that could re-populate the Groups with incorrect options.

Let me know your thoughts there.

    Thanks, Jon

    Hi Jon,

Problem solved - there was another list in MailChimp syncing, which added the groups to the Sugar list, and then back to Mailchimp.

    Thanks for you help. Hordur

      Hello Hordur,

Great news! Thanks for checking up on that. It can be a real nuisance to find when using test data and instances, so I know full well. Let me know if anything else comes up.

      Cheers! Jon
