Name, title and brief bio?
Curtis McHale has been building Web Sites for the better part of 10 years. For the last 5 he has been working almost exclusively with WordPress as a development platform. He has written feature articles for Web Designer Magazine (issue 191) and been asked to comment on topics ranging from the demise of GeoCities to how sites like SquareSpace will affect the web community. He also blogs about building site for WordPress at WP Theme Tutorial.
When not designing and building sites Curtis spends time with his wife of 10 years his 1 year old daughter and their Chocolate Lab Roxy. You can also find him paddling his whitewater kayak off waterfalls and getting out a few days a week on his road bicycle.
Why are you a leading contributor in the SugarCRM community? What are the benefits that you experience from your involvement?
I have not actually worked with SugarCRM before I had to for the Gravity Forms integration I had to do for a client. So far the benefit is being exposed to SugarCRM, as I have not really investigated the community in general.
What other projects have you been involved with on SugarForge.org?
This is my first project on SugarForge
What inspired you to create this project?
The impetus for this project was a client's existing use of SugarCRM. We wanted to use Gravity Forms as their form plugin for WordPress since it's simply the best option. There is currently no integration for the two so I had to build it.
Is there anything that the users should know about those? Something hidden/new in this project? Think of this as an opportunity to describe how it works to a user?
Currently the project is really just a developers tool for the integration between Gravity Forms and SugarCRM. There will be a screencast/tutorial on WP Theme Tutorial at http://wp.me/p1Fud2-6P for the full usage. The basics are to install the plugin and then edit it to map the proper Gravity Forms fields to the fields you want it SugarCRM.
What do you want to build next for Sugar?
I had not planned on an admin interface for the plugin but with the additional coverage from the SugarCRM community it's getting more and more tempting. The admin interface would make the plugin useable by anyone. With a set of dropdowns you could map the fields in your forms to SugarCRM.
