#152 - "Use Creator Group Select" setting
Hi again Jason,
In the "Security Suite Settings", I've checked on the option "Use Creator Group Select" but it does not seem to be working for a user with only 1 group assigned to him/her. For example, if a user who belongs to multiple groups creates a new account, he/she has the ability to assign security groups to it. But when a user who belongs to only one group creates a new account, his/hers security group is not assigned to the new record. Am I missing something on the functionality of that setting?
Thanks Stefan
Edit: Add group select to quick create for the Group Select option.

Correct, that is the purpose of the option and I need to update the doc to clarify that. It is meant to only show if a person is a member of more than 1 group so that the user can ensure that the desired group is associated to the record. If a user is only assigned to 1 group then any Inherit rules should go into effect instead because it is assume that the group should always be inherited.

To confirm, the user with one group creates a new record (ie account) and the "Inheritance Rules" take over. Since I'm using "Inherit from Parent Record" and the new account record has no parent, no security groups are assigned to it. That is the intended functionality correct?
If that is the case (which I believe it is), how would I get around this issue where I need that new record to be assigned to that user's one group without using the "Inherit from Created By User" or the "Inherit from Assigned To User" settings? I can't use those settings because the other users in the group (of the user assigned to only one group) have multiple groups and I can't have new records belong to those other groups.
Let me know if my explanation is unclear.
Thanks Stefan

You would use Inherit from Created By User. With "Use Creator Group Select", any user who is a member of more than 1 group would be prompted for the group(s) to assign to the record. It will bypass the inheritance rules. Inheritance rules only take affect for users who are in only one group.
Best practice is to always use Inherit from Created By User in conjunction with Use Creator Group Select.

That seems to have done the trick. I was worried because our work process involves going to an account's detail view and adding related records from there using the "QuickCreate" layouts (instead of the full forms). In this scenario, users with multiple groups do not get the group selector and it seems to only follow the "Inherit from Parent Record" directive as a new record only gets the parent's groups. Am I right?

Correct, it only shows on the full form view as it was meant to solve a specific need. Adding it to the Quick Create of course makes sense, but is a challenge to do so. Lets leave this case open as a feature request for adding the group select to the Quick Create forms. Work around is to disable quick create forms across the board.

Yes that's fine. In my case, it's actually working the way I would like it to because we need the "Inherit from Parent Record" to apply when creating records within an account regardless of the groups associated to the current user. Thanks for the help.
