#1114 - Security Suite - Can't assign tasks

Closed Bug? created by kf7866 9 years ago

Hello, I followed typical setup. I created "Greenvale Only" role and assigned permission as outlined in typical setup. Then i created "Greenvale" group and then added user "Khalid" to that security Group. Finally, I check "Greenvale" account and assigned to "Greenvale" group. When logged on as user "Khalid", he can't assign tasks, cases etc to user outside of his group "Greenvale". It says, "You do not have access to this area. Contact your site administrator to obtain access.". However, when i logon as admin or any user which is not restricted like above sees the task created as outlined above. So basically, although it gives the error "You do not have access to this area. Contact your site administrator to obtain access." it does create the tasks and assign to the proper user invisible to the user who created it originally. Any idea why its throwing this error. I did rebuild roles and then quick repair and rebuild several times but it did not have any effect. Its really annoying as it seems to be working behind the scene but not showing and creating error and keeping the task invisible to the creator. Same thing applies to case if i follow the same procedure to create a case. Please help. Thanks.

I like to add that i tested another scenario just know but encountered same issue. I added another user who is not part of any restrictive user to the "Greenvale" group and then logged an "khalid" and tried assigning the task to that other user that i added to the group but i get the same error, "You do not have access to this area. Contact your site administrator to obtain access." although behind the scene the task was assigned to that user but on the surface it gave the above error and also user "khalid" cant view this task in list of his task although he should be able to since he is creator of the task.

so it would seem that user "khalid" can only assign tasks to himself and not to anyone else.

    Hello,

This behavior doesn't sound like something that typically happens. Do you or have you ever had any other module installed? If so, which ones? There's never been that sort of error simply when trying to select a user on a record. Does it happen only on the Tasks module? Do check your roles and see if Users is someone on that grid and if it is set to Owner for Khalid. If it is, that would explain why he can only assign to himself. But Users shouldn't be on the grid by default. Only a customization would have put it there.

The only module installed is SecuiteSuite and there has been no modification to the base install. It happens on both task and case. See attached image for screen capture of role security group has.

I see some other custom modules in there. The rest of the list is cut off. Is there a Users module in that list on the left side?

I'd be curious to try it out on your install. Will email you shortly to see if that can be done.

We were able to work through this via email. What was going on was that no groups were set to be auto inherited for newly created records so once the "khalid" user assigned a new task to someone else the user no longer had rights to view that task. Turning on some inheritance settings helped solve that.
