Anything recently change either in your CRM or on the server? Could file permissions got out of line? Is there a custom layout for that security group?

correction they can see edit fields, but not detail.

I went ahead and unchecked sync to detailview in studio within that layout save & deployed then rechecked it and it now works.

Interesting. I wonder how it even got to needing that, but at least you have a solution. Going to close this out for now, but feel free to follow up if it pops up again. Haven't heard of an issue like this before.
